Posting Summary:
The Community Impact program is seeking program coordinators who must be eligible for Federal Work Study funding as approved via the Teachers College Office of Financial Aid. The position will provide support on a robust array of free adult education programs and support services for low-income adults in upper Manhattan, including GED and ESOL classes and College and Employment Counseling. Gain program management and/or teaching experience to prepare you for jobs in non-profit agencies and institutions by joining the staff at Community Impact. This position requires a minimum commitment of 10 hours/week. 

Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Program Coordinator's primary responsibilities include coordination support for Community Impact's robust array of free adult education programs and support services for more than 1000 low-income adults in upper Manhattan, including GED and ESOL classes as well as College and Employment Counseling. All positions offer flexible daytime and/or evening hours at our convenient offices, which are just one block away from TC at 122nd & Broadway. Other related responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Supporting general office functions
  • Contributing to and supporting special projects
  • Assisting with the planning and execution of programs within the department
  • Assisting with website maintenance, communications, and database management
  • Assisting with communications and office support, including answering phones and emails

Scheduling
Student work schedules are based on the needs of the department and the student’s academic schedule. Students should discuss their schedules with the hiring manager/supervisor during the interview process. Hiring managers/supervisors will make every attempt to accommodate students’ needs.

Work Limitations
During the academic year, students may not hold appointments or any combination of appointments totaling more than 27 hours per week (International students may work up to 20 hours).

Minimum Qualifications:
- Must have been awarded federal work-study for the term in which a work-study position is being sought
- Must be a TC student currently enrolled in a degree program and taking at least 5 credits
- Must be able to abide by Teachers College academic and personnel policies and guidelines, including FERPA, Student Confidentiality Agreement, and the Student Privacy Requirements
- Must have interest in working with low-income, diverse populations
- Teachers must be proficient in the subject they teach, and administrators must have strong oral and written communication skills as well as MS Suite and Google Docs proficiency
- Experience working with adult populations is preferred
