Job Summary/Basic Function:
Teachers College is grateful to have an important group of friends, parents and alumni who are highly engaged and extremely committed to the mission. These donors seek multiple ways to deepen and continue their relationship with TC. They enjoy sharing their own lives’ most valuable lessons and wish to advance the Teacher’s College mission well into the future by making philanthropic gifts that have an impact on society both during their lifetime and by including the College in their estate plans.
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Leadership Giving, the Associate Director of Major Gifts will be responsible for deepening relationships with a portfolio of donors in order to secure major gift contributions up to six- and seven-figure ranges towards the College’s priorities. The Associate Director should have a strong knowledge of planned giving to serve as an in-house resource and key point of contact for donors and fellow fundraisers seeking to use gift-planning tools such as bequests, life insurance, charitable gift annuities, charitable lead trusts, and charitable remainder trusts.
The past five years have been a period of growth among TC community members joining the Grace Dodge Society, TC’s legacy donor recognition circle. The Associate Director of Major Gifts will work with Dodge Society donors and prospects to identify meaningful ways to give back and produce ways in which these donors can continue to affiliate with kindred spirits.
Frontline Fundraising
- Solicit major and planned gifts by managing a portfolio of prospects with major giving capacity who can make outright contributions and multi-year commitments now during their lifetime and have capacity to make larger gifts as part of their estate planning. Qualify donors; Develop cultivation strategy and plans to maximize donors’ interest in supporting TC; solicit and negotiate gifts, and ensure appropriate gift agreements are in place to document donor intentions; and ensure that they are stewarded.
- Assist donors with life income inquiries, collaborate with proposal writers to create offers that use PG Calculator, and work with donors to finalize CGA funding and agreements.
- Assist other frontline fundraisers to help structure gifts that include gift-planning tools.
- Partner with the TC Generation, especially the Omnichannel Integrated Marketing team, so that alumni and other prospective estate donors, who are either unmanaged or identified with no or low capacity (e.g., under $100,000) are aware of the benefits of making legacy gifts, are engaged with digital and paper communications, and are solicited by the Omnichannel Integrated Marketing team.
- Travel as needed to meet with prospective and current donors
Administrative
- Partner with the Donor Relations and Stewardship team, to ensure that all major and planned giving donors are stewarded.
Stewardship will include that Donor Relations generates any narrative proposals needed to make the case for supporting a program or restricted area of the college.
- Work with Donor Relations to generate all gift agreements that are related to restricted and unrestricted major gifts, simple bequests and all cash giving during the donor’s life.
- Partner with Donor Relations to generate specialized gift agreements that structure gifts using gift planning tools, such as life insurance, charitable gift annuities and charitable lead or remainder trusts, to ensure that they comply with standard College policies and practice.
- Collaborate with the Donor Relations and Stewardship team to recognize donors, and
Rely on the Donor Relations engagement group to provide logistical support of the Grace Dodge Society.
- Lead the College’s efforts to report to State authorities on our planned giving tools, including coordinating with State Street Global Advisors to ensure timely and accurate transactions and reporting relating to gift annuities and pooled income funds.
- Advise the TC Generation team’s efforts in marketing to raise awareness of Grace Dodge Society membership and to communicate regularly with donors and prospective donors to the Grace Dodge Society and Emeriti groups.
- Communicate regularly with Prospect Development so that they may create and track proposal activities in Raiser’s Edge.
- Ensure that all contact reports with donors are accurate, up-to-date and recorded in Raiser’s Edge, the College’s database of record for all donor information.
Minimum Qualifications:
- At least three to five years of progressive major gift experience as well as experience working with planned giving tools and donors.
- Working knowledge of all gift-planning tools, laws and their relationship to charitable gifts
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Experience working with fundraising databases, Raiser’s Edge and Salesforce preferred
- Exceptional listening skills and can-do attitude
- Attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree
- Strong organizational and planning skills
Salary Range:
$95,000 - $119,000 annually

Hybrid/Remote

Depending on role and business needs, colleagues will either work onsite or in a hybrid model (a combination of in-office and virtual days). Employees are expected to live within a 150-mile radius of the College.
