The Department of Human Development is seeking a Federal Work Study employee, who must be eligible for FWS funding (approved via the Teachers College Office of Financial Aid). The employee will provide support on general tasks in support of various departmental functions and projects. This position requires a commitment of a minimum of 15 hours/week.
Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Department of Human Development is seeking a Federal Work Study employee, who must be eligible for FWS funding (approved via the Teachers College Office of Financial Aid). The employee will provide support on general tasks in support of various departmental functions and projects. This position requires a commitment of a minimum of 15 hours/week
Primary responsibilities include performing academically relevant (when possible) basic level administrative tasks and contributing to special projects under the direction of their supervisor. Other minor and major related responsibilities; including but not limited to:
● Support general office functions
● Contribute to and support with special projects
● Assist with planning and execution of programs within the department
● Assist with website maintenance, communications, and database management
● Assist with communications and office support, including answering phones and emails
● Help create, edit, and distribute departmental newsletter
● Assist with event planning and room reservations
● Assist students and faculty with general TC and HUD information
● Maintain general appearance/tidiness of the shared space (kitchenette, fridge, storage cabinets).
● Check the mail and sort it/deliver as appropriate; assist and support HUD team as needed for office administration

Scheduling
Student work schedules are based on the needs of the department and the student’s academic schedule. Students should discuss their schedules with the hiring manager/supervisor during the interview process. Hiring managers/supervisors will make every attempt to accommodate students’ needs.
Work Limitations
During the academic year, students may not hold appointments or any combination of appointments totaling more than 27 hours per week (International students may work up to 20 hours).

Minimum Qualifications:
- Must have been awarded federal work-study for the term in which a work-study position is being sought
- Must be a TC student currently enrolled in a degree program and taking at least 5 credits during the fall/spring semesters (or equivalent, which includes full-time equivalent offerings - HBSK 6480, CCPJ 6480, CCPX 6480, or any 8900 course).
- Must be able to abide by Teachers College academic and personnel policies and guidelines, including FERPA, Student Confidentiality Agreement, and the Student Privacy.
Previous experience:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and Social Media
- Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and communication skills
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Strong computer, research, and presentation skills
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Ability to complete assigned projects with minimal supervision
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with Canva to create visually appealing infographics, flyers for events and other necessary graphics
- Open to working in the Summer
Salary Range:
$18/hr
