Posting Summary:

The Office of the Controller at Teachers College, Columbia University, is seeking an Assistant Manager for Financial Systems who will serve as the subject matter expert and liaison between the Finance, Accounting and Budget departments and the Teachers College Information Technology (TCIT) office for multiple Financial Information Systems (FIS).

Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Office of the Controller at Teachers College, Columbia University, is seeking an Assistant Manager for Financial Systems who will serve as the subject matter expert and liaison between the Finance, Accounting and Budget departments and the Teachers College Information Technology (TCIT) office for multiple Financial Information Systems (FIS).

Under the supervision of the Financial Systems Manager, the Assistant Manager will serve as the subject matter expert and liaison between the Finance, Accounting and Budget departments and the Teachers College Information Technology (TCIT) office for multiple Financial Information Systems (FIS). This includes working with departments to develop a keen understanding of their business processes and translating into technical requirements and solutions that meet their needs and result in timely resolution of issues.

The Assistant Manager will support the Financial Systems Manager with general FIS department operations such as improving customer service standards, maintaining financial systems, user acceptance testing, cause and effect analysis and other ad hoc projects. The Assistant Manager will also be responsible for managing one direct report, Financial Systems Analyst, providing leadership, support and supervision.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

Financial Systems Customer Support:

  • Responsible for maintenance and administration of all FIS supporting the College’s Disbursement functions, as well as providing support for other FIS including the College’s Enterprise Resource Planning system (Ellucian Banner), and related third-party systems
  • Perform system maintenance tasks and collaborate with the TCIT support team to ensure maximum system reliability and performance; and proper information technology security protocols
  • Manage user acceptance testing for system patches and upgrades to existing software and implementation of new technical software solutions
  • Provide end user training across FIS systems and related applications for new users or for updated systems and applications
  • Assist the Financial Systems Manager in developing, formalizing, implementing and improving customer service standards and support

Financial Systems Operations:

  • Responsible for creating and maintaining technical system requirements, project planning, and process and system documentation for the College’s Disbursement systems.
  • Identify and recommend business process and system improvements to the Financial Systems Manager driving efficiency and productivity, maximizing automation solutions and addressing potential FIS issues
  • Support the Financial Systems Manager in the performance of monthly and year end FIS closings, tax regulatory reporting, internal and external audit requests, ad hoc and other periodic reporting and assignments.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of the Controller’s area website.

Employee Management:

  • Supervise and delegate tasks to the Financial Systems Analyst, including but not limited to data entry across the FIS systems, including general ledger journal uploads, creation and maintenance of structural accounting elements in Banner (index/fund/organization/account codes, Accounts Receivable and Financial Aid detail codes, etc.), creation of routing approval chains for procurement and employee expense reimbursement systems, and other tasks.
  •  Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, information technology or other business-related field of study.
  •  4-5 years’ related experience.
  • A strong functional understanding of finance and accounting operation functions and systems including General Ledger, Human Resources/Payroll, Accounts Payable, Budgeting, Purchasing, and Accounts Receivable.
  • Broad technical knowledge and skills of relational database scripting and reporting (SQL) and application support.
  • Strong desktop software skills and application troubleshooting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Banner (Ellucian)
  • Experience managing and supervising staff

Salary Range:

$96K - $113K
